The University of Vaasa (UVA), an ENHANCE partner, took part in the 20th Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems (SDEWES 2025), held from 5 to 10 October 2025 in Dubrovnik, Croatia, reaffirming ENHANCE’s commitment to addressing global challenges through research, innovation and international collaboration.

SDEWES conferences provide an international forum focused on key sustainability challenges, including technological development, policy and system transitions, and planning and management approaches related to the energy transition and climate neutrality. Participation in this context enables ENHANCE partners to share expertise, develop collaborations and strengthen the contribution of universities to a more sustainable future.

The 2025 edition of SDEWES brought together 785 scientists and experts from 68 countries across six continents, confirming the conference as a major global meeting point for interdisciplinary research on sustainable development. The programme featured a wide range of activities, including oral and poster presentations, keynote lectures, panel discussions and a Project Exchange Event, fostering collaboration between academia, industry and policy stakeholders.

Within this context, the University of Vaasa (UVA) actively contributed to the scientific programme with the presentation Thermal Performance of Two Different Pavement Materials in Northern Climate Conditions, authored by Birgitta Martinkauppi and Anne Mäkiranta, members of the University of Vaasa research team.

This participation highlights ENHANCE’s strong commitment to international research collaboration, applied sustainability research and the dissemination of scientific knowledge with real‑world impact. By engaging in global forums such as SDEWES, ENHANCE partners continue to strengthen the role of universities in advancing solutions to societal and environmental challenges.
